A New Roof Is a Winter Money Saver

Every winter, a lot of money goes right through the roof. That is more literal than you might think. Heat rises and when a roof is getting old or is not installed well, heat goes right through it. You don’t have to put up with losing so much money every year when you get a new roof.

Can a New Roof Help to Save Money?

Absolutely a new roof can save money if your old roof is not in good shape or has leaks or damage.
Any type of new roof will prevent heat loss in your home but the better quality the materials and installation are, the better the roof will be in stopping heat loss. One of the key factors in getting the best roof to stop winter heat loss is the underlayment. The cheaper paper type simply isn’t going to do as well as the thicker, higher quality underlay.

Do The Materials Matter? Is Standing Seam Roofing Better than Asphalt for Example?

One of the best underlays to use is GAF underlay. It is thicker and sturdier than its cheaper paper counterpart. Find out if the roofing company you plan to hire uses GAF underlay. The better roofing companies most likely do use it as it makes the new roof top quality from the sheathing to the shingles or panels.

On top of the high quality underlay, any roofing will work but it is best to guard your investment in the high quality underlay with an equally high quality roofing material. Though three tab shingles will do fine, laminate is better. Laminate shingles are thicker and will hold up better to storms. Even better than laminate is standing seam roofing. As good as laminate roofing is, it is not quite as durable as metal. Whether you go with laminate or standing seam roofing, or metal, your investment in top quality underlay is better protected.

With winter approaching, now is a good time to get a new roof you need before you lose a lot of money from heat going through that old roof. Getting a new roof now means your furnace won’t run as much to keep your home cozy and warm through the winter. The result will be substantially lower heating bills while you remain comfortably warm watching the winter storms through your windows.
